What to expect on Poihākena tours

On this 2 hour walking tour you’ll be guided by local Māori, passionate about their heritage and history; and who know how to tell a story!

  • Visit sites in The Rocks where Māori have lived, loved, traded, visited, worked and died since 1793
  • See Māori taonga (treasured objects) found on a local archeological site and now exhibited at The Rocks Discovery Museum
  • Walk down Māori Lane
  • Experience waiata – Māori song
  • Hear intriguing stories spanning 224 years …visiting Māori chiefs, kidnappings, trade; Wahine Toa – stories of Māori women, Māori entertainers –  and more!
  • Enjoy a delicious Hāngi lunch (optional extra – minimum numbers apply)

    • Poihākena tours depart from Campbells Cove, The Rocks
    • Tours depart once a month (Saturday) – bookings essential
    • School and group tours are available anytime with options for Kapa Haka (performance) and Hāngi
